Khalil Muhammad Career Background
What is your biggest career achievement?
- My biggest career achievement isn't necessarily the point of my career where I've made the most money, or even had the most authority. My biggest achievement would have to be my first Service Manager position, which paved the way for everything I've done since as well as everything I will do in the future. Being trusted with MANAGING a community at 26 was a huge deal. I made it my mission to exceed all expectations and improve the community in all aspects.
Given your past experiences, what event/ project or moment would you revisit and how would you go about it differently based on your current frame of mind?
- The moment I would revisit is when I was a Service Technician at Riviera Terrace. When I started here, I had nowhere near the number of connections and resources that I have now. Before I was introduced to the DMAA, I never knew there were tons of property professionals and supplier partners gathering monthly who could possibly have answers to a lot of the issues we may have had on property. If we were more involved in our local apartment association, I'm positive our work life would have been 10 times easier.
From your perspective, what is the industry lacking to support the modern renter and how do you plan to help supply that need?
- The industry has come a long way but still lacks a bit of innovation. Things seem to be done the way they always have, and this may not fit the modern rental. I've noticed that the modern renter doesn't pay much attention to their email. One thing that I do with my team is bring in a bit of technology as well as a different kind of communication that grabs the renter's attention and keeps it. Have you ever had a common workorder that was a super simple fix, but everyone had an issue with it? Well, I have; I've made it my goal to send out monthly video communications to the residents of my community showing them how to easily take care of these simple work requests. My plan moving forward is to continue to bring innovation into my communities and just thinking outside of the box.
